In a burglary a few months ago a freind had her £120 Sat Nav stolen whilst on charge in her bedroom. The loss adjuster told her that no claim would be allowed for this as it was a car accessory. She grinned and bore it as it was only a small part of her claim (her home had been ransacked and altogether about £8,000's worth of her belongings, jewelery and electrical and portable goods had been stolen). She replaced it herself prior to the claim being settled but didn't like the replacements operating system. Fully intending to see if she could return this different model whence it came for a refund or credit note she bought another one more similar to the first. Then a few days ago she was burgled again Same modus operandi. She works nights and with no car on the drive maybe the burglars thought she would have replaced things by now and what with Christmas presents etc... True to form, ransacked again but this time the thieves spent longer in the premises judging by the amount of mess - furniture pulled away from the walls, sofa's upturned, every drawer in the building emptied and even some carpets moved and floorboards lifted! Of course this time both of the sat navs walked along with both sets of keys and the Clifford alarm handsets for her classic Porsche (kept garaged at a friends some distance away as no room on her drive), and some of it's documentation. I don't think that my car insurance policy covers me for loss of keys but I am certain it does not cover me for having a sat nav or radio console pinched from my home. Does anyone have any experience of claiming for what these days is not merely an accessory but almost a commonplace standby. Can anyone offer any advice?
